Nimbo X Feed Pusher in Denmark: 420 Cows, Two Barns, One Robot
translate

At Måns Brændesen’s dairy farm near Tønder in southwestern Denmark, feed pushing does not stop at the end of one barn. The farm has 420 cows, robotic milking, heifers raised on site and around 250 hectares of farmland. With cows housed across two separate buildings, keeping feed pushed within reach means covering more than one feed alley throughout the day. So when Måns decided to automate the job, the question was not simply whether a robot could push feed. It was whether one robot could work with the farm layout he already had.

Today, his Sveaverken NSveaverken Nimbo X robotic feed pusher works through one barn, travels across to the second building, and continues its scheduled feed-pushing tasks there.

“We bought a feed pusher, Nimbo X, to create more activity at the feed table and also to save time on pushing feed,” Måns says.

With local setup and support from Danish Sveaverken dealer Agroassist ApS, it is now part of the farm’s everyday routine.

More Feed Table Activity Without More Manual Work

Feed pushing itself is a straightforward job. Repeating it throughout the day is where the time adds up. As cows eat, feed gradually moves farther away from the feed barrier and needs to be pushed back within reach. On a busy dairy farm, that means another task competing with animal care, fieldwork, and the rest of the daily routine. Måns wanted Nimbo X to take over more of that repetitive work while keeping feed regularly accessible to the cows. His farm was already using robotic milking, so automating feed pushing was a natural next step. For Måns, the change has delivered more than just saving time.

“There is more activity at the feed table,” he says. He also reports an increase of between 1 and 1.5 kg of milk per cow since Nimbo X was introduced. That increase is Måns’ own reported result from this farm, rather than a general performance claim for every dairy. But it is an important part of his experience. For him, the value of automatic feed pushing is not only spending less time doing the job manually. It is also supporting the feeding routine he wants for his herd.

The Real Test: One Robot Across Two Barns

The layout of Måns’ farm is what makes this installation particularly interesting. His cows are housed in two separate buildings. A robot that could only work along one fixed feed alley would therefore solve only part of the problem. Nimbo X needed to finish its work in one barn, travel to the next, and continue pushing feed there.
“I have cows in two barns, and it can easily drive from one building to the other and push feed in for the cows,” Måns explains. “It can manage that without any problem.”
Nimbo X uses 3D LiDAR for its main navigation , supported by cameras for visual sensing and obstacle detection. Instead of relying on long magnetic guidance tracks along the feed table, it can navigate the feeding area and routes between buildings without magnetic guidance along those paths. The system only requires a short 2–3 m magnetic nail path from the charging station . For a farm like Måns’, that matters. The robot can work around the existing barn layout rather than requiring extensive guidance infrastructure to be installed throughout its route. Avoiding that kind of fixed floor guidance was one of the reasons Måns chose the system in the first place. The goal was not to redesign the farm around a robot, but to find a robot that could fit the farm already there.

Making the Installation Work on the Farm

That flexibility still depends on getting the setup right, which is where Agroassist comes in. Rather than simply delivering the Nimbo X, the Agroassist team came to Måns’ farm, scanned the areas where the robot needed to operate, and created the routes around the actual barn layout.
“Working with Agroassist has been really smooth,” Måns says. “They came and scanned where Nimbo X needed to drive in the barn, and then they programmed how it should drive from their computer remotely.”
Once the routes were set, Nimbo X could carry out its feed-pushing tasks according to the farm’s schedule. Through the app, Måns can manage tasks and operating times, see what the robot sees through its cameras, move it remotely when needed, and send it back to the charging station. The Wi-Fi connection also allows Agroassist to access the system remotely when support or adjustments are required.
“They can also control it remotely themselves,” Måns says. “So it has been a positive experience. It has been a good collaboration.”
For a farmer adopting a new automation system, that local role matters. The machine has to fit the farm, but the people behind it also need to understand the installation and be available when something needs to be changed.

From One Farm to a Growing Partnership in Denmark

Måns’ Nimbo X is not Agroassist’s first experience bringing Sveaverken technology onto Danish farms. According to Anders from Agroassist, the company has now been distributing Sveaverken products in Denmark for five years . The partnership first grew around precision agriculture, where Agroassist built extensive experience installing and supporting autosteering systems for local farmers.
In a
previous Sveaverken customer story with Agroassist, they had already completed more than 600 autosteering installations,  with local installation, calibration and support forming an important part of its approach. Today, that partnership has expanded from precision agriculture in the field to automation inside the dairy barn. Anders says Agroassist has now sold 30 Sveaverken feed pushers in Denmark . The technology may be different, but the dealer’s role is familiar: understand how the farm works, set the system up around the customer’s operation, and remain available once it is running.
